Walenstöcke loop

Walenstöcke loop
The circuit around the Walenstöcke is almost entirely in a federal hunting area and in a fauna protection area. You will be spoiled with untouched nature and impressive high mountain landscapes.
The circular route starts in Ristis (1.601 m a.s.l.) with an ascent to Rugghubelhut (2.290 m a.s.l.) and up to Rot Grätli (2.559 m a.s.l.), which is the highest point of the track. Behind Rot Grätli it is possible to find some snow also in summer. Cross the Bannalper Schonegg (2.250 m a.s.l.) down to the Urnerstafel at the Bannalpsee (1.690 m a.s.l.), where the ascent to the Walegg (1.951 m a.s.l.) is waiting for you. Then down again to the Walenalp (1.675 m a.s.l.) and pass Stock (1.730 m a.s.l.) or Rosenbold (1.865 m a.s.l.) back to Ristis.
Good to know
The Walenstöcke circuit is a challenging hike. Due to the snowfields, good shoes are mandatory. A very good condition is necessary. The circuit can be done at the earliest from July (depending on snow conditions).
Tip
The Brunni-Bahnen and the Hotel Engelberg offer this hike as an attractive package with a local walking guide and two overnight stays.
